Janani Narayanan is a bharathanatyam dancer. She learnt under the guidance of 'The Kirans' in India, where she did her arangetram in 2000. Currently she is continuing her dance education under Smt. Vidhya Subramaniam at Lasya Dance Company. She has participated in Lasya's productions and has given several performances in the Bay Area. In June 2004 she participated in San Francisco Ethnic Dance festival in which Lasya was one of the featured Dance Schools. Janani did one of the lead role in Lasya’s latest production Navarasa - Her Choice in AUG 2010.
She is also a folk dancer and has performed South Indian folk dances such as Karagam at several programs.
In Jan 2010 she gave a solo performance “Nrityamala - Garland of Dances” in Bangalore, India. And in June 2010, she performed in Mudras - Essence of Classical composers through Dance.
Janani started "Nrityakalya Dance Company" for teaching and promoting the folk dances of India. She is also one of the co-founders of Sanhiti - South Indian Dance Troupe - www.sanhiti.org
Apart from being a dancer she is also an Artist and enjoys painting. Her paintings are influenced by thoughts and ideas from various Indian myths and dance compositions. Janani's works can be viewed at www.oviyaa.net
Janani holds a bachelor's degree in Microbiology. Her hobbies include acting, traveling and listening to music. She acted in a south Indian play 'Kaasu Mela Kaasu'. That was staged by Naatak in 2002 in Bay Area, Los Angeles and Sacramento. 'Kaasu Mela Kaasu' was her debut in acting and was appreciated.
