  Nrityakalya Dance Company's Artistic Director, Janani Narayanan, presents "Tarangini - The Ancient River," a thematic dance journey following Kaveri's course and the people she encounters. The production captures the essence of Kaveri's story with original music by Smt Asha Ramesh, production guidance by Dr Lakshmi Ramaswamy, and lyrics from ancient Sangam texts to modern composers.
For centuries, people worldwide have celebrated the dynamic relationship between Earth's magnificent rivers and humanity. Rivers shape the lives people; their stories intertwined with the waters they live alongside. From indigenous communities living in harmony with the rivers to modern traders and artisans who depend on them, each river has a powerful narrative driven by its uniqueness. One such ancient river - Kaveri in Karnataka or Ponni in Tamil Nadu, flows through the Deccan plateau from the Western Ghats to the Bay of Bengal. Born from a boon to serve people, Kaveri is revered as the source of life, bestowing blessings, removing sins, and inspiring artists along her banks. Nrityakalya Dance Company's Artistic Director, Janani Narayanan, presents "Tarangini—The Ancient River," a thematic production following Kaveri's journey. The production captures the essence of her story with lyrics from ancient Sangam texts and modern composers, original music by Smt Asha Ramesh, and production guidance by Dr Lakshmi Ramaswamy.
Talented musicians bring the lyrics to life, enhancing the emotions and movements of the vibrant dancers. Alluring costumes and background sets enhance the production and transport the audience through time, from mythological stories, the Sangam era, to the ancient settlers of Deccan, to the political cries for Kaveri, the medieval glory along her banks, and finally, the prosperity of Kaveripoompattinam.
